Because the Ngorongoro is home to more than 25,000 large creatures and is a unique, living world full of colorful habitats.
Get immersed under the crater wall
You can see a vibrant cosmos below, isolated from the rest of the continent, as you stand at the edge of the Crater. And as you descend the precipitous 2000-foot crater wall, you’ll reach a waiting area of lakes, grasslands, marshes, and forests, each of which is home to unique fauna.
Baboons, monkeys, waterbucks, and enormous tusker bull elephants will greet us at the densely forested Lerai Forest. And sometimes leopards.
We’ll go to Lake Magdi, where thousands of vivid fuchsia flamingos congregate on the volcano’s floor. The hippos will invite us to lunch at this great picnic area near Ngoitoktok Springs.
The grassland of Ngorongoro crater
The grasslands, which are home to thousands of wildebeests, zebras, and gazelles, are another expansive ecosystem on the crater floor. We’ll traverse these plains while keeping an eye out for serval cats and buffalo.
However, as the crater is one of the greatest places in Tanzania to see lions hunting or relaxing after a hunt, we will constantly be on the watch for them as we go through these rich surroundings throughout the day.
The abundant and rich birdlife of Ngorongoro should not be disregarded. We’ll be searching for raptors like the augur buzzard, tawny eagle, and white-backed vulture, as well as egret, ostrich, and firefinch to add even more color to our safari.
If all those vibrant shapes weren’t enough, we’ll ascend the crater walls once more in the late afternoon to witness one of Ngorongoro’s famous sunsets at the rim. An amazing conclusion to this fantastic one-day excursion.
